Urrrggghhh...hangover...but wind is always the best cure for a sore head. Simon and I woke to a breathless morning and a marginal forecast so there was much relief when by midday the wind began to pick up quick from the normal trade direction. We sailed Sprecks first as we were expecting the wind to be offshore at the wavier beaches. But I was surprised to find out that Sprecks was actually very onshore. The waves were crap at Sprecks...Simon didn't fancy Ho'okipa or Kuau....so Kanaha beckoned.

And Kanaha delivered. Not only my best session yet on Maui by a fair distance but one of my best wavesailing sessions...ever. Perfect planing-off-the-beach 5.2 weather. Perfect boom to half mast waves waves waves. There have been lots of days here of a similar size but today the difference was the wave quality. Previously at Kanaha the waves have been dumpy close-outs allowing only two or three turns but today they were amazing. Clean, walling up and peeling beautifully. Furthermore I was sailing much better than recent sessions - almost always picking out a decent sized set wave and really getting vert on many of my bottom turns. Maybe a bit more power in the waves would have been nice at times...but that's just me being picky.

The last hour of the day was the best. The crowds thinned, the wind increased a smidge and the waves kept on coming. My last was the best of the day. A rogue logo higher which walled up and kept on peeling. Turn after turn after turn after turn. :)

5 big fat stars and it's scary to know that there is still the potential here for much much better.
